I take some small pride in being a victim - it has shaped my worldview, of course.

And pleased to do what I can to change things...

Do you think medical education can be reformed? How?
Absolutely. I think an important place to start is at the level of the mission of medical education, which is ultimately to support patients' health, so really in a basic way, starting to change the philosophy to being patient-centered instead of faculty-centered, research-centered, academia-centered (all these things are important and necessary, but they are supports for improving the health of patients, families, communities)
Relation to medical education?
Interested observer, understanding that to change health care, we have to change health professional education. It costs 1,000 times as much to fix a car when it gets to the customer than fixing a process in the factory.

Why am I here?

1. To join with other individuals who are interested in medical education at all levels, to change the profession to be more patient-centered.

2. To work on a way to bring these concepts into medical education concretely - by identifying friendly institutions and faculty at them willing to try new things.

3. To try out NIng.

I keep meeting physicians who want nothing more than to provide great care for patients, but are not equipped to consider alternate approaches to the way their practices are managed or the way the health system is organized to support patients. Let's figure out ways to help them!
