The first course about web 2.0 and medicine will start next Thursday at the University of Debrecen. I will give 20 slideshows in 10 weeks and I would like to use this class as an experimental one. That's why I would like to ask them to fill out a survey on the first day and on the last one as well so I could analyze how their views and attitude changed during the course.

I will use SurveyMonkey.

Could you please help me what kind of questions to ask them?

Here are some potential questions. Berci, would it be possible for you to upload the presentations on medschool evolution, so that we can also learn from them? Thanks.

What's your motivation to resort to web 2.0 resources related to your medical studies?

Do web 2.0 resources bring added benefit in terms of medical school grades, higher personal and professional development?

What types of web 2.0 resources (blogs, wikis, journals, etc...) work best for you in terms of usefulness and outcomes?

What is missing in the medical degree curriculum to put it in line with a 21st century e-medicine empowered health system?

What can web 2.0 improve in medicine (i.e access to knowledge, professional networking), and what will it never influence (i.e, development of clinical skills, etc...)?

Tiago, thank you, you gave me very good ideas!

Some other possible questions:

What kind of web sites and tools do you regularly visit?

Do you use any online tools in your studies?

Do you think the internet can change and shape the future of medicine? Why?

Berci - Very exciting!

I look forward to seeing the slideshows and results of your work. Will you encourage students to join this network and/or have them blog about their experience so we can hear about things from their perspective?

Also, SurveyMonkey? If you were to think Web2.0 in terms of getting feedback would you use a blog/friendfeed/twitter discussion to have people be transparent in their thinking and save you the time of translating a closed-tool to meaningful information for your community?

Okay, you are working hard enough :) so let me try to provide what you asked for -

I'd be interested in what students think the faculty need to provide for them - what experiences should they be provided during their medical education? What competencies should their faculty have? What should they learn about interacting with patients in the Web2 world?

It would be interesting to hear before/after if there was an increased understanding among the students that they need to be better equipped to meet their patient's needs in a network world (or they don't...everything's just fine...).

Good luck!

Ted

Ted,

Of course, I will tell them about this community and will encourage them to blog about their own experiences as well (second slideshow will focus on how to create and manage a blog).

Thank you for the questions! Now I have about 10 of them and the reason why I want to do this survey is to be able to somehow measure the changes in their attitude after the whole course.

So the possible questions:

Do you use the Internet? (how often, male or female, age, etc. - basic questions)

Do you use any online tools in your studies?

Do you think Internet can play an important role in managing your medical practice in the future?

What kind of web sites and tools do you regularly visit?

Do you think the internet can change and shape the future of medicine? Why?

Have you ever heard about web 2.0 or medicine 2.0?

If so, what's your motivation to resort to web 2.0 resources related to your medical studies?

Do web 2.0 resources bring added benefit in terms of medical school grades, higher personal and professional development?

What experiences your medical faculty should provide you with during your medical education?

Have you ever heard about e-patients?

If so, do you think you have to meet their expectations?

Thank you for your help and please let me know if you more questions in mind.

Hello
this survey forms a degree of needs assessment and I am interested to see the outcomes. .... but I find that an assessment of faculty is also essential. In my current role to reform med education at the basic science level here at VCU, School of Medicine I find the daculty are less informed in how to evovle the delivery of content away from didactic to more immersive environments such as the use of simulation tools. I am interested to not only see the outcomes of the survey but the emographic breakdown of those surveyed

Hello!
I'm very interested in your activity about evolving the delivery of content using immersive environments.
I've been working with clinical and surgical simulators for more than 10 years actually, and I have my own company providing med edu using simulation.
I think we have something to talk about :)
Take care.

1. What new web applications, sites, and services did you try out as a result of hearing about them in this course?
2. What new web applications, sites, and services became part of your workflow (occasional, monthly, weekly, DAILY) use as a result of this discussion?

And one more:

What web applications, sites, and services would you like to see your medical educators and librarians using? (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, MedicalPlexus, Sermo, Ozmosis, etc. etc.)

Jen, I've already sent the survey questions out. Next semester, I will do the whole course in English and I will add these questions as well.

Thank you for your input!
